Established in 2006, White Mountain is KwaZulu-Natal’s only acoustic music festival and is known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, plentiful amenities and idyllic setting. John Ellis gets nods for new album Rural

Recorded at Peace of Eden, filled with protest, sincerity and brutal honesty, Rural is a legitimate album, powered by strong lyrics, good musicianship and John’s unmistakable voice – if you’re looking for songs that bring back memories of Tree63, you’re looking in the wrong place, buddy. I mean, listen to ‘Jack Kerouac’s Blues’; it’s completely different from anything he has ever done before, and also shows that John is well-versed in the history of rock and blues.  John has successfully grasped the singer/songwriter philosophy and made sure that Rural is an accurate representation of what’s on his mind and in his heart. Overall, the album has many lessons to share with you and will keep you captivated- Josh Smith

Spoek Mathambo building up an army

Spoek Mathambo makes the Afro-futurists look old school. With the arrival of his second album, Father Creeper, he’s one man building up an army to make his creative visions reality, rewriting any artistic laws in his way. The title Father Creeper is a reference to a classic in the world of sleazy South African tv jingles (it is by pure coincident that the ditty is sung by the fiercely named, obscure rogue of a lounge singer, Kalashnikov).
